PNC says the story of appointing the top cop is frightening.

Georgetown : Clarrisa Reil of the main opposition People’s National Congress briefing the media today says the unfolding stories surrounding the appointment of Mr. Henry Greene as Commissioner of Police point to a possible cover-up by the President of his own association with the embattled Commissioner.

Reil pointed to the diplomatic cables released by WikiLeaks suggest that President Jagdeo sought to give the impression that he was unaware of the questionable activities of Commissioner Greene before appointing him to that position.

She maintained that Guyanese must be reminded that, before his appointment as Commissioner, Mr. Henry Greene was Crime Chief. As Crime Chief, Mr. Henry Greene was well placed to know of the drug trafficking, money laundering and other illegal activities going on in Guyana.  With the safety and security of Guyanese as his principal responsibility, the President should have been aware that the Guyana Police Force (GPF) was not preventing or solving crimes. The President should have been aware of what his own Minister of Home Affairs knew about Mr. Greene’s performance and conduct.
