Police Complaints Authority rules police used excessive force at Panorama semis

Port-of-Spain: The Police Complaints Authority (PCA) has found there was one case of excessive use of police force at the 2012 Panorama finals.

In a news conference to appraise the media on the status of several complaints before the PCA, Chairman Gillian Lucky revealed that two complaints were filed against the police, accusing them of using excessive force in the exercise of their duties.

Lucky explained that media footage provided to the PCA which helped to determine that while most of the officers at the event were not at fault, one was.

Meanwhile the PCA chairman has also revealed that investigations into a complaint filed by Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley against Police Commissioner Dwayne Gibbs in the lease of a small light aircraft have not yet begun.

Lucky explained that the PCA is currently in the process of collecting evidence and is calling on persons to come forward with any relevant information that may help the PCA determine whether any criminal act occured or if any corruption took place.
