Police Complaints Authority to probe three police killings

Port-of-Spain: The Police Complaints Authority is assuring the country that it will be rigorous and resolute in the execution of its duties and will closely monitor the investigation into the fatal shooting of three persons by police officers.

The Authority says it has been in contact with the Commissioner of Police and has indicated it will be monitoring to ensure that the investigation is fair, independent and thorough.

Police say the men opened fire on them following a robbery spree in Chase Village last Saturday but relatives of the Santa Cruz men say they were not criminals but were victims of robbery themselves.

Chairman of the Authority Gillian Lucky says Police Commissioner Dwayne Gibbs has been instructed that in accordance with the law he must keep her informed of all developments in the investigation.
