Police Force alarmed at the number of road fatalities

Bridgetown.

The Royal Barbados Police Force (RBPF)  is expressing concern at the number of road fatalities so far for the year. Barbados has recorded six road fatalities, three in as many days.

Public Relation Officer of the RBDF Inspector David Welch, told Trackker News that the number of road fatalities so early into the year is quite alarming as comparative figures for the same period last year showed only one fatality.

"We are pleading with road users to exercise greater care on the road. The police is obviously going to continue its patrols to ensure that the public adhere to the laws which are there to protect everyone", Welch said.

According to Welch, lawmen are having serious problems with the dangerous practice of illegal drag racing on the roads.

"We are concerned with drivers using our roads as a race track, As far as I know there is a place for that and it is not the road. This practice not only has the potential to cause injury to the offending drivers but also law abiding, unsuspecting road users", Welch added.
