Georgetown : All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), cars, 4x4s, mini buses and trucks were among several vehicles valued $61M, that have been added to the Guyana Police Force (GPF) fleet, to boost crime fighting, including in the hinterland locations.
Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee presented the keys to the vehicles to Police Commissioner (ag) Leroy Brummell at the Tactical Services Unit (TSU), Square, Eve Leary, to help strengthen the force’s mobility to execute their mandate. The vehicles were funded through the 2012 National Budget.
Minister Rohee said that the handing over of the vehicles is considered an important and historical event because the law enforcement agency in Guyana must be equipped at all times with the assets to enable them to executive their functions. The ATVs will be utilised in the interior regions. “ The Government is striving at all times to find the resources to equip the police force and other law enforcement agencies with assets that make them mobile, assets that make them effective, and … recognisable in the society,” added Minister Rohee..
Commissioner Brumell highlighted that the vehicles will be used for their intended purpose and two pick- ups each will be given to the seven divisions. He added that these vehicles are important for patrolling and responding to reports.
“It is a regular feature having to be given tools so that we can continue with our work… I would like to thank the Government through your hard working Ministry for your constant donations to us by your efforts to modernise this force,” he told Minister Rohee.
