Georgetown: The Guyana Police Force is moving to establish police outposts, increasing its ranks and stop and check points in the hinterland locations.
This is to clamp down on the illegal activities occurring in those areas.
Commissioner of police Leroy Brumell made the announcement while addressing the opening ceremony of the annual police officers conference, at Eve Leary earlier.
The commissioner said that the force is alarmed at the number of murders among miners in interior locations.
The force plans to review fire arm applications and its speedy processing, establish a communication network between the Guyana geology and mines commission and the police force are some of the methods to be implemented to tackle the issue.
In addition, it will establish a hinterland intelligence network, and a committee to look into security issues.
