Police graduating recruits were urged to maintain high standard of ethics

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Georgetown : “Do not forget that discipline is paramount, always maintain a high standard of ethics and conduct yourselves in a professional manner. You are law enforcement now and the country depends on your service and protection”.

This was the charge given by the Guyana Police Force’s Senior Superintendent and Acting Force Training Officer Fazil Karimbaksh, to the graduating recruits of the Felix Austin Police College at their passing-out parade last evening.

The parade held at the Tactical Services Unit Square for the trainees from the Recruit Courses 363-366, saw 98 graduating after undergoing approximately five months of training.  Three graduates from each course received special awards. The training began on 6th September of 2017 and saw persons from different backgrounds, ethnic groups, personalities being transformed from regular civilians to law enforcement officers.

Delivering the feature address, Assistant Commissioner of Police and Finance Officer Nigel Hoppie, commended the graduates for having successfully completed a challenging period of training. He said, “It is an indication that you were committed and steadfast to the call and overcame any challenges that would’ve confronted you. You have completed the transformation from citizens to law enforcement officers.”

Assistance Commissioner Hoppie reminded the recruits of their duty to serve. He stated, “As the new generation of policemen and women, you will face moral challenges and high public expectations. You are expected always to display that professionalism and dedication that is necessary for the execution of your duties. Remember the oath you took to serve and protect the citizens of this country, avoid temptation and remain honest.”

The Recruit Course training had various components incorporated including practices and procedures of self-defense, first aid, stress and anger management, communication skills, English language, basic and essential principles of policing, firearm training, human rights training, Gender-Based Violence Training and moral education among others, that would fully equip ranks for a life of service to Guyana.
