Laventille: A man in his late thirties believed to be the main suspect in Tuesday's arson attack in Laventille that led to the deaths of four people, is now in police custody thanks to an anonymous caller who alerted police to his whereabouts.
The man, who is believed to have hurled a Molotov cocktail inside an apartment at the HDC apartment building on Tuesday morning, is now being interrogated by homicide and Besson street Criminal Investigation Deparmtnet officers.
Police reports say that around 8am Wednesday, officers of the North-Eastern Division Task Force received an anonymous tip that a man fitting the description of the suspect, had entered a maxi along the Eastern Main Road in San Juan.
The vehicle was proceeding east.
Led by Sgt Samuel, officers embarked on a search mission along the bus route eventually intercepting the vehicle at the Curepe junction.
Public Information Officer of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Sergeant Wayne Mystar told the media at the daily police news conference that the man is now being questioned.
No charges have been laid against this second suspect or the first one held within hours of the arson attack on Tuesday.
Sgt Mystar says the police are not ruling out placing the suspects on identification parades.
Traumatized residents and survivors of Tuesday morning's tragedy will also receive counseling from the victim support unit of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.
