Berbice: Police up to late this evening are still searching for the driver who struck down two children while they were walking along the Cotton tree public road Berbice. 8 year old Jasmine Ramnauth succumbed to her injuries, while her 9 year old brother Vijay Ramnauth is clinging on to life at the hospital after he suffered head injuries and fractures. From all indications the driver was speeding when he hit the siblings and failed to stop. Some persons were heard saying that if he has stopped and rushed them to the hospital, maybe the young girl would have survived. Currently the Government in actively involved in the national commission on law and order that identifies areas in traffic that needs to be seriously addressed, including the constant speeding and reckless driving that continue to be the major cause for deaths each year. The Government is expected to install close circuit television at various areas in an effort to maintain law and order. Meanwhile no one has reportedly seen the number plates of the car, makiing it difficult for police to track the driver down. However based on a few eyewitnesses account there seem to be something investigators have to go on. This evening relatives and friends of the two children are in deep sorrow as a result of another reckless driver. With all the mayhem and deaths over the years caused by speeding, many ask the question when will drivers learn from these horrible mistakes.
