Police optimistic about stemming increase in murders

Barbados has recorded more murders for the first six weeks of this year than for the same period last year.

Up to February 10 last year, two murders were committed on the island; five murders have already been recorded for time this year.

The victims of murder  for the year so far are, Adrian Nervais 30 of Sergeant Village, Christ Church and Anderson Brathwaite 29 of Ellerton, St George both were shot in the stomach during separate incidents on January 2.

Paul Eghill,37 of Church Hill, St Philip was shot to death on January 21,  Simon Cherubin 38 of New Orleans St Michael died at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on January 27 after succumbing to cutlass wounds received on January 1 .

Aubrey Butin 43 was shot several times last weekend outside his house at Crystal Heights in St James.

According to Public Relations Officer of the royal Barbados Police Force Inspector David Welch, the police are making progress in their investigations of the murders.

Speaking to Trakker News, Welch said lawmen were concern over the high percentage of gun related crimes that are occurring across the island.
