Port-of-Spain: One hundred and forty seven persons arrested during the State of Emergency under the Anti-Gang legislation have been released.
This comes just over two weeks after the release of 21 Nelson Street detainees held under the Anti-Gang legislation. It means that only 300 of the 449 persons detained under the legislation remain in custody.
National Security Minister Brigadier John Sandy admits that the goverment has faced major challenges with the piece of legislation.
Police Public Information Officer ASP Joanne Archie told a daily press briefing, that of the 56 homicide investigations ongoing, 12 persons have been charged and are currently assisting with those investigations.
Forty persons have also been charged in connection with the 111 firearms seized since the start of the State of Emergency. The Police Service says many of these individuals detained on serious or other offences would have faced the courts, but it cannot say how many would have been granted bail, detained or released.
