Georgetown : Cognisant of an article that was published in the Kaieteur News yesterday Wednesday November 12, 2014, under the caption “Man picked up by cops, beaten and dumped in lock-ups at La Grange”, which dealt with an incident involving Mr. Sunil Lall at Parfait Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, the Guyana Police Force today says the matter is being investigated by the Police Office of Professional Responsibility.
Statements have already been given by Mr. Sunil Lall and other persons and the Subordinate Officer of the police patrol allegedly involved and the Subordinate Officer in charge of the La Grange Police Station, at the time, have been placed under close arrest as the investigations continue.
It is apt to note that recently, in view of a number of incidents that had occurred where members of the public had been arrested and kept in custody for minor offences and sometimes for no offence, and which had sometimes resulted in the Police Force coming into major disrepute, the Commissioner of Police (acting) Mr. Seelall Persaud, had issued a directive that Commanders were required to put systems in place to prevent such incidents.
