Police responds to Roopnarine’s fear of snipers at Freedom House while at CNS 6

 

Georgetown : The Guyana Police says a Facebook Page attributed to a member of a political party it is stated that yesterday Wednesday November 30, 2011, police escorted Mr. Rupert Roopnarine to Congress Place, Sophia, from CNS TV CH.6 in Robb Street, Georgetown.

The Facebook Page also indicated that men were at Freedom House armed with sniper rifles within sight of the public.

The Guyana Police Force confirmed that it responded to a report made by the Chief of Staff that he had received a call which indicated that Prime Ministerial candidate Mr. Rupert Roopnarine was uncomfortable and afraid to leave CH.6 where he was making a presentation, due to some elements who he was told were outside of CH.6.

The police went to the scene where they saw a few persons gathered on both sides of the pavement and they were chanting “Granger, Granger; no place for Ramotar”.

Subsequently a few men arrived and shortly after Mr. Roopnarine emerged and entered his vehicle. Some of the men entered his vehicle with him and the others joined two other vehicles which were behind Mr. Roopnarine’s vehicle. They then drove off and the police followed them unto the entrance to Congress Place and left the area.The police never received any report of sniper nor saw any snipers around Freedom House.The Guyana Police Force is calling on all members of the public to be more responsible and to stop posting on websites information that can incite persons to violence or make inflammatory statements which may have the same effect.
