Bridgetown: A senior police officer in Barbados is worried about the increase in fraud crimes on the island.
According to Erwin Boyce Senior Superintendent of the Royal Barbados Police Force, fraud crimes in Barbados have increased dramatically over the past five years.
“Fraud is big business, indeed the number of reports has heighten our awareness of the magnitude of the problem in our country and it is not comforting to acknowledge to admit, that it is likely that fraud reports will continue to increase” Boyce said.
Boyce stressed that at this time it was important that attention be paid to fraud and that the police force needed to built capacity in this area and assure legitimate businesses and other institutions that it has the capability to investigate this complexing crime.
Boyce was speaking to a graduation class of Fraud Investigations conducted by the Regional Police Training Centre over the weekend.
