Georgetown : Cognisant of an article captioned “One shot dead, one recaptured” that was published in the Kaieteur News of May 20, 2014, and which dealt with the recent prisoner escape from the Georgetown Magistrate Court Lock-ups, the Guyana Police Force today clarifies that ranks of the Police SWAT unit were not and are not involved in the Law Enforcement efforts to recapture the escapees.
The article had indicated that the Kaieteur News understands that the manhunt (for the escapees) is being aided by the involvement of ranks from the newly formed SWAT unit.
The ranks of the SWAT unit are continuing with their training under officials from The Emergence Group (TEG) and have not been deployed.
The Guyana Police Force is once more urging responsible media operatives to seek to clarify their information with the authorised police officials before making their publications.
