Arima: Police have made two major drug busts resulting in a total of over $60 million worth of illegal drugs being removed off the streets.
19-year-old Nathaniel Bowen-Clarke appeared before Arima Magistrate Indra Ramoo Haynes this morning charged with attempting to export over $21 million in cocaine. The 19-year-old was remanded in custody without bail to re-appear in court on September 16th.
Reports are that officers acting on a tip-off on August 16th, ventured to the luggage holding bay of flight BW 529 bound for New York where they found two suitcases of high grade cocaine weighting 54 kilogrames and valued $21.6 million.
Police suspect they may have cracked an illegal drug ring involving airport employees.
In another matter, officers of the Southern Division Task Force, CID, along with the Organised Crime, Narcotics and Firearm Bureau and Defence Force officers went into a forested area in Moruga where they destroyed seven marijuana fields with drugs valued at over $40 million.
They also destroyed 20,000 seedlings. No one though has been arrested in connection with the find.
