Georgetown: A serious trend is now taking over the school system as students get involve in gang violence. Today the police is expected to charge about 15 teenagers for brandishing knives and other sharp weapons as they invaded the Leonora Secondary School with the intent to commit serious harm to a student or students following an altercation some time ago. The youngsters from Queenstown Secondary School formed themselves into a gang armed with shapr weapons and hired a bus to the West Coast. Luckily the police was summoned just in time before the situation got bad. But these gangs are not new to some of the schools in Georgetown. The St. Winifred School at the corner of Garnett and De Abrue streets is among the worst schools in the city. Almost daily there is some problem involving teachers being confronted by irate students. There are reports that students rip the wood off tables and chairs to fight with each other. The students of this school use expletives as a way of communication in the school in full view of teachers and the headmaster. The Ministry to date failed to respond to several complaints that were made. Officials from the Ministry of Education when contacted were not available to comment on this serious situation in the school system.
