Police to use technology to combat crime.

Bridgetown.

The Royal Barbados Police is putting greater emphasis on technology in an attempt  to bring order to some of the organisation's deficiencies  in areas such as accident management and response to calls.

Commissioner of Police Darwin Dottin said this was as a result of some less than flattering findings following some surveys and an assessment from senior officers of the force.

"The first commentary to which I shall make brief reference is the work done by the Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies in a recent victimization survey. In my  opinion, one of the most disconcerting findings for us was the fact that some victims of crime indicated that  they did not make a report to the police because they were not convinced that the police would  have taken they report seriously", Dottin said.

"Equally disconcerting was the findings that several victims were not satisfied with the manner in which the police dealt with their complaint. Obviously, these are findings that speak directly to the core issue of service," the Commisssioner added.

Dottin was addressing the134th Passing Out Parade and Graduation Ceremony at the Regional Police Training Centre yesterday evening.
