North West District : At about 11:45pm yesterday the police responded to a report received that a man was at the Kumaka Waterfront, North West District (NWD), discharging rounds from a firearm and threatening to kill persons.
Upon arrival the policeman, who was armed with his service revolver, saw miner Randy Edwards, 27 years, of Yarakita, NWD, and who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, in a shop armed with an unlicensed shotgun.
The policeman confronted Randy Edwards in efforts to retrieve the firearm and to arrest him, and a struggle ensued between them during which Randy Edwards was shot and injured to his back.
He has been referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital after receiving initial medical treatment at the Mabaruma Hospital.
The unlicensed shotgun was recovered by the police as the investigations continue.
