Poor salaries a major issue for lawmen

Bridgetown.

Two main concens of the Barbados Police Assocation are low salaries and retirement conditions.Station Sergeant Michael Sobers, the president of the association says police officers are among the lowest paid Government wokers and that's why some of them were seeking greener pastures.

"Our salaries are atrocious some officers are leaving the Police Force because they are getting better job offers in both the private and public sectors, in areas such as teaching which has a better salary", he said.

A police constable pay is $2500, while an ispector's wage is $4800. Sobers was speaking yesterday during a worship service at Sanctuary Empowermengt Centre, Country Road, st Michael, in celebration of the association 50th anniversity.
