Poor umpiring is a major hampering problem cricket in the West Indies, this is the observation of Joel Garner, president of the Barbados Cricket Association.
The former West Indies fast bowler said the opening round of the Regional Four Day competition had strengthen his view that the standard of umpiring in the West Indies must be improved.
"The time is right where we should get the people who cannot give good decision out of the cricket. We have been talking about it at West Indies board level now for the last three to four years Garner," said.
"There are lot of ageing umpires who do not see very well and do not give proper decisions. I think we are going come to that position where we are going to take stand in terms of who is sent out to do a job in the middle because it plays on the confidence of the players", he added.
"They are not very comfortable when they see some umpires and that lends to bad cricket as well", says Garner.
