Post mortem examination suggests 12-year-old drowned

Berbice. The parents of 12-year-old Joshua Chunilall of Letter Kenny Village, Corentyne are not too pleased with the results of a post-mortem which suggested that their child died as a result of drowning.

Owing to the decomposing state of the child’s body, he was laid to rest on Friday.

The post-mortem examination performed on Friday morning said Chunilall died as a result of drowning and asphyxiation.

The pathologist also suggested that the marks of violence that were seen on the child’s body were a result of decomposition.

He noted that the possibility exists that someone might have pushed the child into the nearby canal and forcefully kept his head under water.

Chunilall’s father, Mark Samaroo, is furious at the results of the autopsy and strongly believes that his son was murdered. “How can they say that he drowned and he was cut up?” the angry father questioned.

He also stated that his son’s ears were cut off, but he was told by the doctor that they might have been bitten off by crabs. This, he noted, is speculation and “two crabs” cannot do the damage his son’s body displayed. The lad’s eyes were also dug out.

He pointed to the fact that the large veins on his son’s feet and hands were slashed. The distraught father recounted that every day his son would watch over the farm until he takes over after returning from the cane field.

He disclosed that his son’s body was found about a half mile from where his farm is located, and is certain that his son was taken there and brutally murdered.

When asked if he had enemies, Samaroo stated that the only person that he had an issue with is one of the men who are in custody.

He explained that on numerous occasions, he was threatened by the individual after he started to protect his farm from the man’s cows.

The two men remain in police custody, while police hunt for a third suspect.
