Kingston.
Chief Executive Officer of the Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) Kelly Tomblin has promised to provide Minister of Energy Phillip Paulwell and Office of Utilities Regulation (OUR) with a preliminary report on Saturday's power outage this week. Tomblin told the media the JPS is still investigating the matter.
She reiterated that the power outage was triggered by an incident at the Duhaney substation, which she said is one of the critical points on the company's transmission system.
Tomblin said this substation manages the transportation of power from the major generation centres in Kingston, St Catherine and Montego Bay.
"We are still looking into exactly what happened, but preliminary indications are that a fault which developed at this substation resulted in all parishes except sections of Kingston losing power," Tomblin said.
The JPS CEO said electricity was restored to most of its customers within four hours and that full restoration was completed just after 9 p.m.
