Georgetown : The Peoples Progressive Party this afternoon expressed relieved that there was no loss of lives after a Caribbean Airlines flight BW 523 overshot the runway at the CBJ Timehri International airport early this morning.
At the same time the party also wishes those injured a speedy recovery and is heartened by reports that there is no life threatening injuries.
The Civil Aviation Authority along with airport officials which falls under the ambit of the Ministry of Public Works, the Ministries of Health and Home Affairs, the Guyana Defense and Police Force and the Guyana Fire Service among others, should be commended for their response and effective implementation of their emergency operating procedures a party statement said.
The party also hopes that a thorough investigation will soon be launched to determine the factors which contributed to this accident as well as an assessment of our emergency response systems in such a situation to determine how Guyana can further improve capabilities in this regard.
