PPP calls on citizens to for community policing groups against criminal

downloadGeorgetown: The People's Progressive Party (PPP)  is calling is encourages citizens of Guyana to organise themselves in Community Policing Groups, Neighbourhood Watch, and Businessmen's anti-crime networks to protect their communities, neighbourhoods and their businesses from the criminal enterprise and to exert pressure on the Guyana Police Force to deliver on its motto "Service and Protection."

Below is a PPP press statement:

“The is appalled by the recent brazen attack by armed gunmen against defenseless Cambio dealers and money changers who ply their trade on America street in Central Georgetown.

The military style of the attack did not go unnoticed as attacks of a similar nature took place in the city in the past.

From all indications it was a well executed attack with much planning having gone into it since all of the attackers escaped unscathed and left little or no trace of identity behind them.

The caliber of the weapons used in the attack were of great significance too and Guyanese have grown accustomed to describing such weapons as either "long guns" or AK 47's.

Two observations are of fundamental importance in the wake of this unprecedented attack. First, it gives the lie to the recent claim by David Granger that gangs have been dismantled and is something of the past. Secondly, it is a slap in Ramjattan's face in respect of his "success" propaganda about ridding the streets of illegal guns.

It is to recalled that following a knee-jerk "high level crisis meeting on the crime situation" involving Granger, Harmon, Persaud, Ramjattan, Nagamootoo and Phillips, Harmon boastfully announced that all the resources will be given to law enforcement to bring crime under control. The public was told that there will be more street patrols, that dogs and ponies will be used, planes and helicopters and metal shark fast patrol boats will be thrown into the wash in an effort to bring the situation under control. An anti-crime plan was commissioned. It was completed and submitted by the Police to Ramjattan who in turn submitted same to Cabinet for consideration. Nothing has been heard of the plan since then but sources say it was rejected as" nonsense" by the "intelligence and psyops experts at Office of the President.

Further, it is to be noted that the attackers knew, most likely from surveillance, that there were no cameras in the vicinity and that with motorcycles used in a highly coordinated manner escape would be “a piece of cake”.

Now that the mask has again fallen from the pretenders at public safety and security and intelligence,  the Guyanese public is once again treated with disdain and total neglect by a masquerading band who had promised the "good life" and a  “safe and secure future" but who, as to be expected, have failed miserably to deliver.”
