Georgetown: Maintaining that the Coalition Government will become “illegal and unconstitutional” after March 21, 2019, the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) commenced protest action in Region three pushing for countrywide protest actions in response to the David Granger-led Administration’s decision to abide in office.

Opposition Leader, Bharrat Jagdeo, has stated recently that the International community should not recognize the Coalition Government after the constitutional deadline for elections has passed.
The Opposition pointed out that on March 22, 2019, the President and his Government will be “squatters” in Government offices, and is encouraging Guyanese to use all available platforms and locations to voice their rejection.
Since the December 21, 2018 No-Confidence vote against the incumbent Administration, it is dictated by the Constitution that elections should be held in 90 days, but this was not possible primarily on the part of Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM).
In remarks on the March 21 deadline, the 90th day since the vote, the party said: “This is a dark day for Guyana. Our government is now illegal and they have effectively executed a coup d’etat by blatantly violating the Constitution.”
“Our jobs, investments, rights and freedom are now at risk. Ministerial and Presidential decisions and orders are now illegal. Join the protests for our democracy,” the party stressed.
