PPP executive member Robert Persaud briefing members of the media this morning at the party’s headquarters Freedom House explained some aspects of the candidate lists presented yesterday to the Guyana Elections Commission.
Persaud said 31% of the Geographical list came from the Hinterlands, 20% from the Urban Centers and 40% from the rural communities showing a significant input of the people countrywide.
He pointed out a lot of emphasis was placed on gender exceeding the constitutional requirement of 1/3 female. The lists represent a diverse ethnic makeup of society with 49% representing Indo-Guyanese, 31% Afro Guyanese, 9% Amerindian, 2% Portuguese, 2% Chinese and 7% mix ethnicity.
Persaud said religion was also considered with Christian 46%, Hindus 40% and Muslims 14%.
The party continues to work with civic groups with 31% from the Civic and 69% from the PPP.
