He added that he was busy listening to the people unlike President Granger and Minister of Health Volda Lawrence in dealing with “all these hardships” including loss of earnings, loss of  7,000 sugar industry jobs and poor healthcare services.

Ali told supporters that it is not time to stand on sidelines but it’s the time for vigorous participation.

“It is a time for unified struggle and we shall not allow the boots of dictatorship to trample on us….We must give a little more for our freedom; we must care a little more for our people, we must sacrifice a little more for the greater good of our nation and future,” Ali said in quoting Dr Jagan.

He promised the re-opening of the estates once the PPP is returned to office since thousands are suffering in the region.

“You are taking Guyana into deep, deep, deep crisis and without democracy there can be no economic development, and without economic development can be no social progress,” he declared.

Meanwhile, Former Prime Minister Sam Hinds lambasted Government for back peddling on its word immediately after the passage of the No Confidence motion on December 21, which had demands elections in 90 days.

Hinds told PPP supporters that they must work to win victory at the polls whenever they are held. He said that the 23 years of the PPP in office were “good” for Guyana and the country must get back there “quickly.”

Further, Sheila Versammy, President of Women’s Progressive Organisation (WPO)said one and all should jump on the campaign trail and ensure victory for the PPP at the next general elections.

“We shall leave no stone un-turned until democracy is returned…until sugar workers are given dignity of working and providing for family,” she said to loud cheers.
