Georgetown : The People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) issued a call for the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) to make public immediately, or as soon as possible, preliminary results of the 2011General and Regional Elections.
The party in a release stated that such a declaration would “dissipate the disquiet that has seemingly engulfed Guyanese as they anxiously await the election results.”
The PPP/C requested a meeting with GECOM’s Chairman Dr. Steve Surujbally to argue the case for the commission to announce the preliminary results in the interest of all.
“It is the PPP/C fervent wish that GECOM will consider the severity of the situation and take appropriate action,” the release stated.
The party’s call for a recount of 48 polling stations in Region Four was also reiterated but the note was made that such a call must not be misconstrued as an attempt to interrupt or delay the ongoing counting process and declaration of results.
The PPP/C implores on all Guyanese to remain calm and exercise patience as they await the results of the elections
