PPP/C promises zero tolerance on corruption

Georgetown: People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Campaign Manager, Robert Persaud, says that the current administration does not condone corruption and those found culpable have been dealt with.  Persaud was at the time responding to claims that the transparency and accountability that the administration preaches of may not be as accurate as the claims.
He sought to point out that when projects such as the Marriott Hotel or the Amaila Falls are announced “then the naysayers come out of the wood work wanting to keep Guyana in the 19th or 20th century and not a 21st century reality. They will fabricate and conjure up all sorts of stories to hold the country back for their own political relevance.”
He reiterated that the projects are done in a very open and transparent way and that the opposition at times chooses to believe their own propaganda and lies and they stop seeing the truth when “it is there for all to scrutinize. We have committed ourselves to Freedom of Information,” Persaud insisted.  Additionally, he said that the administration has empowered the Integrity Commission, adding that Opposition Members of Parliament are still not submitting declarations. He also pointed out that in the private sector almost on a daily basis persons are placed before the courts for corrupt practices. He insisted too that Government in no way creates or allow corruption to take place with impunity adding that persons found to be corrupt are dealt with condignly.” He further drew reference to the fact that the PPP/C Presidential Candidate Donald Ramotar has made it clear he will have zero tolerance on corruption.
