Shanique Ameike Hyman, of 90 West Street, Kingston, Jamaica, was sentenced to 12 months at HMPS Dodds when she appeared in the District "B" Magistrates Court yesterday.
Hyman, who passed out 17 packages of marijuana at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis, possession with intent to supply, trafficking in the drug and importing the drug.
Hyman arrived in Barbados last Friday and was interviewed by police after she cleared Immigration at Grantley Adams International Airport
She was arrested and taken to the QEH where she told a doctor she was pregnant. This was subsequently comirmed by an ultrasound.
Hyman also admitted she had ingested drugs and tests showed there were foreign matter in her digestive system. She was detained at the QEH were she passed out 17 packages of marijuana weighing half a pound.
The young woman apologized to the court and said she was offered money to transport the drugs and did it to support her familly.
Magistrate Laurie-Ann Smith-Bovell sentenced the drug mule to 12 months on each charge to run concurrently..
