Georgetown : Minister of Finance Dr. Ashni Singh reported that the preparation of Budget 2013 is underway and has been so for some time.
During a press conference at the NCN Studios yesterday, Minister Singh said there is ongoing discussion with the Parliamentary Opposition parties. He explained that at a meeting two months ago with the two parties, A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and the Alliance for Change (AFC), initial comments and observations were offered.
The Minister stated that a number of references were made to ongoing issues on their shared agenda. He explained that the Opposition parties were invited to make submissions on their issues of interest and priorities which they have done. The Finance Minster noted that those submissions are currently being examined.
Meanwhile, engagements with stakeholders continue on a broader basis to ascertain priorities.
The Finance Minister said the process will continue with the hope of a conclusion “that will ensure a budget that will continue to serve the cause of development in this country.”
Last year’s $192.8B budget was slashed by more than $20B by the combined opposition using their one seat majority.
