Georgetown: The head of state is concerned that people continue to make wild allegations and comments about the state of the Cheddi Jagan International airport runway, when for the last 70 years planes have been landing there safely. He told a Trinidadian press that the Caribbean Airline that crash landed at the airport on July 30 with a packed crew and passengers is unfortunate but the Guyana should not be blamed. There were no deaths, but a few injuries. The President said that the visibility and the runway was never a problem and that the pilot could have landed the aircraft safely. This he based on the preliminary report of the incident. It is believed that the pilot made an error in judgement which resulted in the incident that day. Caribbean Airlines on the other hand is defending it's pilot who they say has been flying to Guyana for over two decades. As far as the President is concerned , Guyana was not at fault.
