President lights up Christmas tree at Houston

Georgetown : President Donald Ramotar flicked the switch to illuminate the Christmas tree at Rahaman’s Park, Houston to usher in the Christmas season last night.

The annual Christmas tree light up is now a six-year old tradition that was first conceptualized by former Minister Manniram Prashad who convinced the private sector to be a major patron.

This year as every other, featured solo performances of Christmas songs by popular local artiste Tenicia

President Ramotar while addressing the gathering said the sentiments of Christmas are descending all around, evident by expressions of happiness, unity, sharing, love, peace and goodwill. “That is the beauty of this season, the Christmas season which is enjoyed by all the people of this country and further afield,” President Ramotar said.
Minister of Housing and Water Irfan Ali who spoke on behalf of the Tourism Ministry disclosed that the season will see an additional inflow of international travel to Guyana. He explained that in December, the projected increase in arrivals will be four percent while the overall increase in visitor arrival for 2011 is 1.2 percent higher than the record high figure in 2010.
