President plugs additional $30M in local film making industry.

Georgetown : President Bharrat Jagdeo officially opened the premiere of eight short films produced by students of the Centre for Communication Studies (CCS) attached to the University of Guyana last night at the Theater Guild.

The project was managed under the eyes of

Dr. Paloma Mohamed, Director of CCS and American Film maker Brian Zahm from Ohio University, USA.

The films Hope, The Backyard, Three Cards, Firebrand Masquerade, Beached, Luck Beat Handsome, The Encounter and The Bottle, combine drama, romantic comedy, cultural fiction and fable. They will soon be released months after a film festival promotion campaign in the Caribbean and North America.

President Bharrat Jagdeo who supported the venture and Government assisted with $12M for the production, after viewing the films told a large gathering that his administration will give an additional $30M to continue the venture which is dubbed

“ the President’s Film Endowment Project “ .

Among those delivering remarks at this evening’s film premiere were Charge d’ Affaires of the United States Embassy in Guyana Thomas Pierce and Vice Chancellor of the University of Guyana Professor Lawrence Carrington.
