President Ramotar charged foreign mission for a good image abroad

Georgetown : Guyana’s missions overseas were told of the key roles they play in promoting the country’s image abroad when they met with their counterparts from the Government for the first time under the Donald Ramotar’s Presidency.
The envoys deployed to countries in the North, Latin and South America, the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Asia, the Middle East and Europe, included Ambassadors, High Commissioners and Consuls General.
During a meeting today at the Guyana International Conference Centre (GICC), they were apprised of recent developments in Guyana and encouraged to develop multilingual skills, given the nature of their jobs and to maximise on the use of technology to move their modus operandi beyond norms and traditions.

President Ramotar who addressed the delegates regarded them as the frontline of Guyana’s foreign policy and said Guyana is looking to them for advocacy on its image abroad.
“Your job becomes more important to us in order to ensure that the image of our country is not damaged,” President Ramotar said as he sought their help in correcting what he described as a tainted perception of Guyana which some sections of the media are guilty of propagating.
“It also affects our economic well being… we don’t have all the resources either in our private sector or in our public sector to have all the investments that we will need to develop our country… we have to ensure that the true picture of our country is well known abroad,” President Ramotar said.
Engagement with the Diaspora, which President Ramotar said possesses some of the brightest minds that can help Guyana with development ideas, is also seen as an important task for the country’s foreign missions.

“Our whole outlook must be one of building world peace because only within an atmosphere of peace in the world will we be able to fulfill many of the plans that we have,” President Ramotar said.
