Georgetown : President Donald Ramotar will be departing Guyana for Caracas, Venezuela in the company of a delegation to attend the funeral of the late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez who died on Tuesday after a long battle with cancer.
Included in the delegation that will be attending the funeral is Guyana’s Ambassador to Venezuela Geoff Da Silva.
The Guyana Government joined in mourning the loss of the Venezuelan President who held a 14 – year reign in the Bolivarian Republic and was re-elected after the country’s October 2012 elections.
Today, President Ramotar signed the book of Condolence opened at the Venezuelan Embassy in Guyana after Prime Minister Samuel Hinds and acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Robeson Benn.
In a message subsequent to the news of Chavez’s death, President Ramotar said he was deeply saddened by the passing of a leader who he regarded a great friend of Guyana, and who inspired harmony and solidarity between the two countries.
