President Ramotar to meet with Antigua PM on the region’s cricket issues

Georgetown : President Donald Ramotar will be heading to Antigua shortly to be part of a special meeting of the Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee, headed by Prime Minister of Antigua, Baldwin Spencer.

The issue of cricket generated much discussion among the Twenty-Third Inter-Sessional meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM.

The situation as it relates to cricket in Guyana was presented by President Ramotar’s delegation to the conference in Suriname from March 8- 9 that  included Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony, Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall and Chairman of the Interim Management Committee (IMC), Clive Lloyd.

Several points were highlighted such as Government’s stance with regards to the setting up of the IMC which was in accordance with recommendations of the court.
The President briefing the media yesterday said  “The meeting agreed that the Prime Ministerial Sub-Committee on cricket would address all of the issues that were plaguing cricket in Region. Guyana as a member of that committee will ensure its full support to that body, with its broadened mandate.”

The WICB has refused to recognise the IMC that was set up to oversee the cricket locally after disputes in the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) left a game at a standstill.
Despite the court ruling that stripped the GCB of all authority, the WICB still insists on regarding the discredited organisation as the official cricket representative in Guyana.

The IMC has given the Administration the commitment to conclude the formulation of the new constitution within three months. Thus far, consultations have been completed with all the regional affiliations.
