Georgetown- President Donald Ramotar is asking the public to be patient for a few days as his advisors decide on what steps to take with regards to rape allegations and professional misconduct against the police comissioner. But while the Government decides, public pressure mounts. Some Ministers of the Government have made their positions known, stating that based on his own admissions, Henry Greene should not wait to be asked but out of shame tender his resignation. The opposition parties are concerned that Greene besides these allegations has reached the age of retirement and is no longer the constitutional holder of the post. The blocking of a rape charge against the commissioner has prompted calls for the Chief Justice to resign.
The APNU in a statement said; “We strongly disagree with the ruling of the Honourable Chief Justice Ian Chang in this matter.”
Accordingly, the party expressed “dismay” and “disappointment” at what it deems “disparaging statements attributed to the chief justice” on the character of the alleged victim. It chided the chief justice for his “apparent lack of sensitivity and knowledge”.
