Prime Minister brokered agreement between LIME and BWU

Bridgetown.

The Barbados Workers Union (BWU) and LIME reach a wages agreement yesterday, after a ten hour meeting under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.

General Secretary of the BWU Sir Roy Trotman, told Trakker News it is now up to the overseas principals of the telecommunications to accept the agreement.

"After debating, the Prime Minister put forward a solution, the workers agreed reluctantly in the interest of the country, while the company agreed in principal even though the position was beyond its original mandate; it now has to go to LIME''s principals overseas and back to the Prime Minister by Friday to confirm the agreement", Sir Roy explained.

Chief Executive Officer of LIME, Alex MacDonald said there had been meanful movement and  development on both sides, he refused to say whether LIME had increased its offer of 7.5 percent but indicated he was cautiously optimistic at this stage.

He praised the Prime Minister for his skilful and deft handling of the negotiations.
