Prime Minister hospitalised

St Clair: Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar has been warded at the St Clair Medical Centre after complaining of feeling unwell.

The prime minister was addressing a meeting of the Amercian Chamber of Commerce this morning when she raised concerns about her health before staff decided to have her taken to the centre.

The Office of the Prime Minister issued a statement stating, "The Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago remains at St. Clair Medical Centre resting comfortably and under the supervision of her medical team. The results of today's examination and assessments have not yet been received however; the Prime Minister will overnight at the nursing home for observation and rest. The Prime Minister has been on a hectic schedule over the past two months during which time she continued to work through a bout of dengue from which she is still recovering. The Prime Minister has been visited by her Cabinet colleagues and has expressed her appreciation for all the concern and support she has received from members of the public."

Education Minister Dr Tim Gopeesingh was among a team of ministers who visited the prime minister at the hospital this morning and said there was no major cause for concern.

He says the prime minister has been very tired and stressed out with her hectic schedule. Specialist doctor Hosay Birju attended to the prime minister
