Prosecutor files injunction against Legal Service Commission

Bridgetown.

Acting Crown Counsel in the Director of Public Prosecutions Office( DPP) Elwood Watts, has filed an injunction in the  High Court blocking the appointment of Alison Burke to the post of Crown Counsel in the DPP Office.

Burke who was recently called to the Bar, was appointed to the permanent  post  of Crown Counsel from September 1.

Watts in his injunction challenging the decision of the Judicial and Legal Services Commission to ratify Burke's appointment, has complained that the postion was never advertised as required by law.

As a result Watts,a police officer who has been on secondment to the DPP Office said he never had a chance to apply for the post.

The Judicial and Legal Services Commission is chaired by Chief Justice Marston Gibson and includes Appeal Court Judge Sandra Mason and High Court Judge Maureen Crane-Scott.
