PSOJ calls for quick probe into Spalding Market affair

Kingston.

The Private Sector Organisation  of Jamaica(PSOJ) is calling on the Office of the General Contractor to conclude itss investigation into the Spalding Market affair with 30 days.

State Minister for Transport and Works, Richard Azan, is under probe for instructing a contractor to build and rent shops at the Spaldings Market without the approval of the Clarendon Parish Council.

In a release, the PSOJ said it is very concerned that the controversy has not yet been resolved in a manner that ensures the maintenance of the public's trust in the Government’s commitment to good governance and the rule of law.

The PSOJ says the matter is especially critical at a time when Jamaica needs to be united in order to rebuild the economy.

“The PSOJ agrees with other civic groups that there is sufficient reason to call into question the conduct of Minister Azan,” said a PSOJ spokesperson in a release this afternoon.

“It is the view of the PSOJ that, should the OCG find that Minister Azan played a role in facilitating or aiding either a breach of the law or a breach of Government regulations, he should resign as a Minister of Government,”
