Public gatherings under State of Emergency still unclear

Port-of-Spain: Two days after the government lifted the curfew, Director of the Police Service's Public Affairs unit Sharon Lee Assang says the legal department is still assessing the State of Emergency Act to determine which gatherings are considered illegal.

Public Information officer Wayne Mystar says under the State of Emergency regulations  gatherings to discuss matters of  public interest are not allowed.

Admitting that private parties are not illegal, officer Mystar advised that citizens should be mindful of all public gatherings and obtain the necessary permissions for all events.

He says beach parties are also not illegal once promoters get the required permission and is in possession of the necessary licenses.

In the meantime, Lee Assang is urging all persons to familiarize themselves with the state of emergency act for details on what the Act says about the gathering of persons.
