Georgetown : Queen’s College has recorded the top performers of this year’s Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) securing the six top performances with Jonelle James being the most outstanding with Grade One passes in five subjects; Biology, Caribbean Studies, Chemistry, Food and Nutrition and Pure Mathematics.
Guyana gained a four percent in increase in overall performance from 2011, with 65 of the candidates that wrote the examination having gained two Grades Ones or more. This is an increase in the number of persons sitting the examination and the subject entries this year as compared to last year.
Accounting, Caribbean Studies, Physics and Biology and Communication were among the subjects with improved performance whilst those with a decline were Information Technology, Literature and English.
Sociology, Environmental Science, Law and Geography saw stable performances.
Minister of Eduication Priya Manickchand said that the results of the examination are still being analysed towards better understanding the performance in each subject area.
She also announced that on August16, CXC council will officially release the results of CXC in Guyana.
This will be the first time that this would have been done here.
Other outstanding CAPE performers are Navindra Baldeo (one Grade one, 4 Grade Twos,) Christopher Chinnatambi (3 Grade Ones, 2 Grade Twos) Kelly Ann Persaud (1 Grade One, 4 Grade Twos) Melodie Lowe (5 Grade Ones) and Raphael Bascom (1 Grade One, 4 Grade Twos)
Additionally 9 candidates from Queen's College, 3 each from Bishops High and St Rose's High and one each from President's College and from the Adult Education Association have secured Grade Ones in three subjects.
