Quintet to stand trial for Murder of Danian Jagdeo


Georgetown: Five of the men on trial in the Adventure Corentyne Robbery/Murder of phone card vendor, Danian Anthony Jagdeo, 36, of Williamsburg Corentyne, were been committed to stand trial for murder after the conclusion of a preliminary inquiry conducted by Magistrate Carlyne Artiga in the Whim Magistrate’s Court.

Jagdeo, called “Damion” a father of four of Lot 12 Section G Williamsburg Village, Corentyne, was shot dead around 15:30hrs on February 5, 2017 while distributing phone cards in Adventure Village, Corentyne, Berbice.Those committed are Mark Dhuman called “Mark”, 22; Abdul Salam Azimullah, called “Sato”, at whose home the gun was found; Shuman Batson, and Satesh Budram, 19; all of Hampshire, and Zaheer Abdulla called “Gold Teeth”, the alleged gun man, of Adelphi East Canje,

Attorney at law Mursalene Bacchus representing Dhuman argued that that his client should not be committed for murder. Although it was mentioned that the man had discussed the probability of a robbery with the accused he was absent from the scene and did not know one of the accused was armed with a gun. Bacchus contended that his client should have been charged with conspiracy to steal.

He will be moving to the high court to have the committal quashed.

According to reports the man was in a shop when a suspicious man entered. Jagdeo asked the bar woman if she knew who the individual was and she said no.

In a matter of seconds the individual whipped out a gun. The shopkeeper took evasive action as several gun shots rang out. The bandits had reportedly grabbed a bag that Jagdeo had in his possession, It contained a quantity of phone cards and cash and fled. They had reportedly escaped on a black Honda Elite motorcycle with a fake licence plate number (CD 2125).

The motorcycle was found abandoned by two persons along the public road of Friendship village, Corentyne. The motor cycle was subsequently identified by a resident who alleged that it was stolen from his yard.

The man had reportedly been picked up by a Silver grey Toyota Allian with fake licence plate number -PVV 9465.

The cops worked diligently throughout the night, following leads and arrested seven persons. A search of one of the suspects’ home had revealed a .32 snub nose revolver and two matching rounds. A quantity of phone cards was also found. The getaway car was also impounded.

Among those that were arrested were a youth that was sent to purchase gasoline for the getaway motorcycle and another person who reportedly made the false licence plates.

A post-mortem examination on Jagdeo’s body reveled that he died from shock and haemorrhage due to gunshot injuries. Two bullets were extracted from the body.
