Georgetown : In a concluded National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting today, the Alliance For Change (AFC) has selected – through an open and democratic process, Raphael Trotman as its Prime Ministerial Candidate for the upcoming 2001 elections.
The process which was approved by the National Executive Committee and which after presentations by the nominees Catherine Hughes and Raphael Trotman, saw Catherine Hughes withdrawing her candidacy and throwing her full support behind a Ramjattan/Trotman team. There was unanimous support for Trotman, the Party Leader.
In his acceptance speech Trotman said that he considers it his solemn duty to pick up the mantle that Mrs. Sheila Holder was unable to carry. He wished her a speedy and full recovery.
Having been nominated for election and encouraged by party supporters at home and abroad to accept the role of the Prime Ministerial, the founding member of the AFC stated that “he considered it the most responsible decision for the party and my beloved Guyana, that I take up the mantle and continue to reach for the goals of change and follow on with the campaign thrust of our Party. I therefore continue to fight for the prosperous future for all our people including our children and youth and a peaceful and productive nation.”
He closed by emphasizing his full support for the Presidential Candidate Khemraj Ramjattan whilst calling for continued unity, discipline and commitment with the Alliance For Change.
