Red Plastic Bag is the new calypso monarch of Barbados, he defeated a field of 9 other calypsonians to captured a record tenth Pic- De Crop title at the Gynnasium of the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex this morning, previously, RBP and Gabby had been crowned monarch on nine occasions.
RBP sang his way to the title with Thank You Calypso and Royal Visit, in the first song he affirmed his commmitment to singing about the issues of the poor. In Royal Visit he encouraged Queen Elizabeth to come to Barbados and witness the true picture of squalor in what is essentially common poverty as opposed to common weath.
His prizes inclues a trophy, a Kia Cerato Car and $10,500. Ian Webster place second, veteran calypsonian Gabby came third, Adrian Clarke was fourth and last year's monarch Popsicle placed fifth.
