Port-of-Spain: New regional low cost airline Redjet is defending its position with regard to the proper filing of documentation to allow it to begin operations here in Trinidad and Tobago.
The airline has postponed its scheduled start-up dates as it awaits approval from state agencies.
Just hours after the Air Transport Licensing Authority (ATLA) issued a statement saying it had not received an application for Redjet for the board to have considered at its first meeting on May 10th, the airline issue a statement today saying that the application for journey permits was made to the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority in December 2010 as there was no ATLA board in place.
As such, redjet says, under Section 23 and 24 of the Air Navigation Licensing of Air Services Regulations of Trinidad and Tobago, REDjet submitted its application for a permit to the Director General of Civil Aviation dated December 8th 2010.
The airline says this application was acknowledge by a letter to REDjet dated December 20th 2010.
REDjet says it was additionally advised to resubmit its application on the May 9th 2011 to the Director General of Civil Aviation to facilitate its delivery the first board meeting of the ATLA on May 10th 2011 and says this was done accordingly.
In this regard, REDjet says it has therefore submitted its application to Trinidad and Tobago in the appropriate manner according to the regulations and the advice given by the relevant authorities.
Further to this, the airline says,the Trinidad and Tobago Civil Aviation Authority confirmed in a meeting on May 5th in Port of Spain with the Minister of Works and Transport and officials from the Ministry that REDjet was indeed in compliance with the safety and security requirements for Foreign Air Operator Operations Specifications.
As such REDjet is seeking consideration with regards for the immediate issuance of permits to operate into Trinidad & Tobago in accordance with the statement by the line Minister to facilitate the application before the newly appointed ATLA can issue a formal licence.
