Georgetown- News of Redjet flying again soon has hit the airwaves, but some passengers who booked with the airline over a month now are still waiting to be compensated after the it suspended service. Guyanese travellers have complained that the airline assured them that within a given timeframe all passengers who booked with the airline will be reimbursed. However some persons claim that many calls were made to the company's head office and they were told to contact Barbados for further details. One passenger from the East Bank who booked to travel to Barbados when the airline suspended operations said she calls the office and no one answers. She said that even if she gets her money the other fares are almost $150 US more. Trakkernews was informed that some passengers benefited after the airline purchased tickets for them on other carriers.
News surfaced that Redjet’s Chief Executive Officer, Ian Burns is expecting the low-cost carrier to be flying again soon. The CEO has reportedly written his employees, informing them that a solution appears to be on the horizon. In a leaked email sent to staff and obtained by the midweek nation indicated that there were encouraging signals from government and are very hopeful a resolution will be found within a short period.
After the airline announced the suspension, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago's civil aviation authorities both suspended the low cost carrier’s air operator’s certificate. Officials from the airline are currently in dialogue with officials from Guyana as they discuss possible subsidy for the airline.
